What's All This, Then?
This is my (Dizzy MxchiefMxker)'s little blogging area where I will talk a bit about behind the scenes aspects of all this.
MAY UPDATE:
Hi, it's May 20th right now and i'm just going to
aaah its 5/20 now and we’ve hit the busiest we’ve been to date. Not to roll around in it, but this marks six months of doing these events at Advanced Action sports. Wild times!
This week we have TWO events in one week, back to back, for the first time. They’re on different days, though, so we still haven’t crossed the creek on this one.
The second iteration of Dance Drag Revolution is TOMORROW somehow, run by Stevie Dicks and judged by a fabulous panel, it’s Dizzy’s first foray into running a live gameshow event that isn’t an escape room or improv game. Skill is on display and it’s impressive.
Historical note, this is also the timeline point where we are introduced to the event planning era of so many locals such as Papi Chupa Chulo, Ana Tomaton (who keeps serving as the lone non-adhd person in many of the planning conversations), and more who all deserve mentioning, but I’m procrastinating as-is! Whoops! There are now group chats on insta for performers and vendors and someone asked me if we want a discord. I’m scared of it though, because I am a tumblr style wimp who would liveblog my own death more readily than learn how to work the arcane discord energies.
We’re booking a bunch of stuff though. We still do not have any confirmed shows at any other venues, and shows at AAS will continue as long as they’ll have us; extremely grateful for the faith in all this nonsense and being amazing partners. Upcoming schedule:
DDR2 on Wednesday 5/21 hosted by Stevie Dicks sickening.events/e/ddr2
MAYHEM MARKET on Thursday 5/22, hosted by Ana Tomaton - this one is more focused on my small vendors than some of the previous ones, so if people show up before doors @7 then the ticket is waived so they can spend money on vendors. It’s an experiment, and one I hope teaches me some good lessons. Market starts at 6, doors at 7, acts start at 7:30 + 9, hope to have a nice tightly run show. Fingers crossed lol. It’ll be great though! Lots of firsts happening at this show, from our boba vendor’s performance persona debut, to the re-introduction of Crow and Shay to our audiences, and more surprises. sickening.events/e/mayhemmarket
At the end of the week, we’re volunteering some time over with TIGHT CREW for Phantasmic - that’s 5/24, go search up Tight Crew and you’ll find more, but it’s looking amazing and I want to repay them for all the community support they’ve offered me. Guess Dizzy’s going to a rave…
Next week! Fourth Wall has nothing, but there’s all sorts of shows I hope to make in the area. Savage Rhodehouse is next Tuesday at Mirabar, Mystery Clown Theater 3000 with Stroke the Clown and Ana Tomaton is on the last Thursday of the Month, and then a certain rocky horror cast has both a The Room show at AS220 and a secret streaming show on Twitch on the 31st. May is LIT!!! Am I, ancient and eternal, yet unaging, allowed to say that?
June is already shaping up too! Kicking things off-
Wednesday June Fourth we have @FatBabesRI bringing a clothing swap to AAS and I’m so excited for this event and working together. I have a feeling this is a first of many…
Saturday the Seventh keep an eye on your schedule if you’re feeling clowny because we’re working on an event to network our aspiring clowns together under one Little Rhody Big Top - (still not confirmed but stay tuned for that and further IN PROVIDENCE things- this won’t be at our usual venue)
Tuesday 6/10 is going to be our first venture into live music booking. We have some hardcore bands coming in from Vermont, as well as a local band tying it together. It’s gonna be a fantastic bill, super awesome shoutout to Sam Books for making the connection happen. That show’s also going to be really interesting because a. I’m a complete outsider to this specific subgenre of music and excited to learn, and b. It’s themed as a show for restaurant and food industry workers, who get in for less.
6/18 we currently have billed and booked as a FNAF show- more on that later, if it gets pushed back, any already purchased tickets will be honored, which is how I want to treat any re-scheduled-not-cancelled show. It’s gonna be wild though, the ideas I’ve heard floating around the vents… oops I’ve said too much.
There’s more coming too, June is going to be super busy. Wanted to take a last moment on that note to say that this year more than ever, community building for queer and marginalized people is incredibly important, and if you’re reading this, I thank you for being a part of that community. The world is going to try to separate us, tear us apart, make us feel completely without support. It is not just fun events, but essential that we make a better future possible through showing up for each other. Tip well, cheer loud, exist loudly and proudly. Oh yeah also a bunch of Fourth Wall friends will be running parts of West Warwick Pride on 6/14 in the early afternoon. Show up! Or if you’re reading this in the future, I hope you showed up! I hear there’s a fashion show.
Okay, this has gone from blog post update to long ramble that nobody will probably see until it isn’t relevant anymore! Whoops! Check out our stuff!
Today is April 23rd
4/23 is our first DRAG DANCE REVOLUTION -- or is that DANCE DRAG REVOLUTION? Unsure. It's happening though! It's been a hard fight in some ways because my mental health has been a little tumultous in response to current events, and my super-hero-or-at-least-not-a-villain aspirational extracurriculars have me worn out. Originally we wanted to schedule THREE events for this month, maybe more, but they ended up being delayed. Too sad for REEFER SADNESS this year, and no HALFOWEEN for personal reasons, but we stay silly.
looking forward at May, there are all sorts of things lined up and as we keep going, hopefully the momentum keeps building. Here's to MAYHEM!
oh wow i didn't update this blog until after red flags marketplace 2/13/25! wow!
ssoooo basically I had a little crash out as the kids say from the whole state of the world. post inauguration brain fog took over, a thousand possible things that could have been issues came together and yet---
IT WAS A TON OF FUN!
Special thanks to Severity Stone for hosting, to all our performers for being incredible, for Mister Sister for sponsoring a raffle prize, to Advanced Action Sports because, well, they're letting us use their space, and my volunteers who stepped up. This show was a turning point in my producing career already; I knew I had to delegate more, but watching what a show looks like if it's just up to me showed me a lot about where I have room to grow. Within 48 hours of the end of the show, I was hearing from dozens of people asking how to get more involved. That's our nexr chapter. What else... oh! We now partner with Sickening Events for tickets! You'll be seeing presale rates that are slightly cheaper pop up here and there.
Our next event is going to be BAD LUCK!!! I have less than a month from today to get it ready. I think we can do this, but I will be reaching out to others this time too.
Oh! Even though our events are all pay what you can at the door ultimately, ordering tickets ahead of time helps the show. Nobody will EVER be turned away for lack of funds.
Somehow it is now 10/14! Wow! I've gotten all fifteen performers prepared and I am so ready for KRAMPUS!
Spread the word! Lots going on behind the scenes right now. The venue has prepared a stage and is vacuuming up all the airsoft bbs that are stuck in the floor; which I think adds to the aesthetic I am going for with the space. I'm a little behind my original planned schedule due to instagram downage and also my own physical existence meaning I can only do one thing at a time. Been creating a LOT of new posters for each of the performers and vendors, and trying to do the thing where we have a manicured and aesthetically pleasing instragram page. Check it out. @fourthwallri. Pretty cool . Okay I gotta go stop updating my website and get to getting ready! Thanks for reading!
Okay so it's now 12/4 somehow and I'm finally getting the performers talking to each other.
Thank you so much for the support from those so far. Website is still very much in progress but we've got updates!
Fourth Wall is a project, a vision, a series of bad ideas worth exploring.
The idea is to have a third space that allows performers, artists, musicians and more to gather, without having to have it be a bar. In fact, it's an opportunity to experiment with what a space can be.
Special thanks to Advanced Action Sports for the space we use! If you're into airsoft, check them out during the weekends!
12/1/24 how is it december oh my gosh here we goooo okay. so. applications open, contacting people in the next 48 hours to confirm some of the performers and vendors, and then I'm gonna start mapping things out! Wow!
11/21/24 ey we have a website now, guess it's real. Just set a date for a new fun event, the Krampus Holiday Market; we're gonna get weird with it and hopefully undermine corporate capitalism and religious intolerance and control etc etc etc. . .
anyway applications are open and it'll be greatttttttttttttttttttttttttt.
